7 Tips to have a Positive Mindset
Life is so much easier when we have a positive outlook on it.
I haven't always been the most optimistic person, but after 10 years of marriage to my amazing husband, and maturing, I've started to look at life as the glass half full, rather than half empty.
Here I want to share some tips of how you can change your mindset to a more positive outlook.
1. Practice Gratitude
Practicing gratitude has several benefits, one of which is reducing stress. Think of all the blessings in your life, the people, the things, and the moments that bring you comfort, joy and happiness. Saying them out loud is hugely beneficial. Then practice gratitude by telling a co-worker thank you, sending a text message to a supportive friend or loving a little harder on someone you care about.
2. Surround yourself with Positive People
Remove toxic people from your life. If someone is always negative, limit your time with them. Focus on spending time with people who are positive, supportive, and encouraging. Both positivity and negativity are contagious.
3. Start every day with positivity
Before getting out of bed, think of blessings in your life. Tell yourself it is going to be a good day. Use positive affirmations. Start the day with a positive thought.
4. Enjoy Humor
Laughter, they say, is good medicine.
5. Incorporate Movement in every day
Whether you are a fitness freak or just take a walk, incorporating movement into your day will have positive benefits. This will help get your mind and body on the same page and encourage a positive lifestyle.
6. Live in the moment.
Living in the moment can help overcome a lot of negative thoughts. Taking one step at a time, being thankful for each breath, each heartbeat. Even if you are being yelled at by a coworker or have an upset client, you can focus on this exact moment, the fact that you can breathe, or that your heart is beating.
7. Practice Daily (or weekly) affirmations.
Starting your day or week with affirmations to remind yourself of can have huge impacts on your attitude. It’s easy to get lost in the negatives but reminding yourself of the positives can be more challenging. I will start my day/week off with a list of 3-5 positive affirmations and when I feel myself fading, I will review the list. This gives a good home base and reminder for when negative thoughts approach.
